Honors General Chemistry 1332H – Spring 2003

Tentative Syllabus

Text: “Chemical Principles” 4th Edition: Zumdahl

  • We will cover the following topics (not an exhaustive list)
    • Kinetics
    • Bonding
    • Quantum Mechanics
    • Solids and Solutions
    • General Inorganic Chemistry - Periodicity
    • Transition metal and Coordination Chemistry
    • Organic Chemistry (Nomenclature only)
  • Two Midterms (in class) - dates to be announced - will count 25% each
  • Two Quizzes – 5% each
  • Comprehensive Final - 40%
  • ALL EXAMS AND QUIZZES ARE CLOSED BOOK
  • No Homework - although I may suggest that you do some problems (will not be graded)
  • No pagers, telephones, or other communication devices of any type are permitted in class – first time I hear your beeper, pager, telephone, etc. go off, I drop your grade.
  • No re-grades on exams, unless you find an arithmetic mistake.
  • Attendance is NOT required, except for quizzes and exams.
  • It is your responsibility to drop the course (if you choose to). In other words, I will not drop you for lack of attendance or for poor performance.
Important Dates:
January 14: First day of Class
January 17: Final date for written notification requesting excused absences for religious holidays or special accommodations for exams.
January 27: Last day to drop without dropping all courses and receive a tuition refund
February 10: Last day to drop without receiving a grade
March 3 - 8: Spring Break
April 1: Last day to drop
April 24: Last day of class

Quiz / Exam Dates (Tentative):
February 4 or 6: Quiz I
February 27: Exam I
April 1 or 3: Quiz II
April 22: Exam II
