The Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston has 26 faculty members, including two Welch Professors and three Chaired Professors. Faculty members have been recognized nationally and internationally with Dreyfus, Sloan, Fulbright, Beckman, and Humboldt awards. For the fifth consecutive year, a Chemistry faculty member has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. The faculty ranks also include at least five teaching award winners. Faculty members serve on national science agency peer-review panels to evaluate competitive research grants for possible funding and are editors of well-known scientific journals. Students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty interact extensively to create a research-intensive atmosphere. Collaborations among faculty, and between faculty at other departments throughout the US and world are common.
